Families are rediscovering the simple pleasures of relaxing and entertaining in the comfort of their own backyards. Transforming an ordinary yard into a convenient, functional space makes a get-together even more enjoyable and an outdoor kitchen is the perfect addition. Having an outdoor cooking area with stations for preparation, cooking and cleanup not only makes it easier to entertain but also allows the host to be a part of the party by keeping them out of the indoor kitchen and rather where they should be–with friends and family outside.

Just like the kitchen in your home, an outdoor kitchen can be designed for your lifestyle, budget, or available space. While a simple layout may be perfect for a family who likes to grill occasionally during the summer months, a couple who entertains regularly may desire something more elaborate that also includes a refrigerator, burner and sink. Or, perhaps adding a grill would be the perfect complement to the chef's creations.

Whether it's a few square feet or a couple hundred, a beautiful outdoor kitchen can fit in your backyard and casual outdoor lifestyle.  Still not sure? Remmeber, any money you spend on an outdoor kitchen will increase the value of your home.

1. Make sure your food prep station has enough counter space so you're not running back and forth into the kitchen.

2. Create an outdoor dining space with tents. You can go the easy and affordable way by draping fabric on four poles on top of any outdoor dining table.

3. Keep tje insects at bay with insect repellents.

4. Plan your patio floor by choosing materials from brick, concrete, stone or gravel.

5. Creating an all-purpose island will save you time and money.

6. Create a firepit for when the weather drops - it can also be used to cook skewers

7. You might want to consider keeping your kitchen sheltered from the elements. You can definitely have a shelter over your kitchen area, but experts wouldn't recommend having a ceiling or shelter over the grill area because of all the smoke.
